Mozambique's Humanitarian Coordination Platform Reinforces Operational Presence in Chókwè
As part of the response to the floods affecting Gaza Province, the Mozambique Humanitarian Coordination Platform (MLHCP), through the mobilization of its member organizations, deployed a technical team led by PRONANAC to support the humanitarian response in the Chókwè district.
The intervention is part of a coordinated action by the Platform, focusing on the sectors of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Community-Based Housing (CCCM), and Shelter/NFIs, with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) being the immediate priority in this critical phase of the emergency. Chókwè constitutes the main operational concentration point, while maintaining flexibility to support other districts or provinces as needs evolve.
The MLHCP emphasizes the importance of coordination between humanitarian actors and the central role of national and local organizations as first responders, ensuring rapid, contextualized responses close to the affected communities. In this context, contacts were also facilitated with local focal points to support the logistics and guidance of the team in the field.
Since 2020, member organizations such as PRONANAC have consistently contributed to emergency responses, often drawing on their own institutional resources, reaffirming the commitment of national NGOs to the most vulnerable communities, including those in hard-to-reach areas.
The Platform reaffirms that strengthening local organizations, effective coordination, and strategic partnerships with entities such as UNICEF, IOM, and other humanitarian partners are fundamental to ensuring a more efficient, inclusive, and sustainable response to recurring crises in Mozambique.
